Personnel Door Applications
Many companies need to stop airflow between two adjoining areas, while still allowing personnel to pass through pedestrian door openings. By utilizing PVC strips in these smaller doorways, facility managers can solve the problem, without a large expense.
There are several reasons personnel strip doors can be a practical solution in these situations:
- To separate a temp controlled area from a non-temp controlled area. In many facilities, the office area or technical area is air conditioned and heated, while the warehouse or factory isn’t. In such situations, to allow efficient movement through the doorway, strips are used to maintain temperature control and save energy. People can still go in and out without stopping to open a door, but temp controlled air is prevented from escaping.
- To seal small external doorways from insects, birds and rodents. By using a personnel strip door in these pedestrian openings, the company can keep these pests out of the facility but allow people to come in and out freely.
- To separate rooms to reduce noise coming from specific operations. If there is a particularly loud machine operation in a nearby room, PVC strips can be very effective to isolate it and dramatically reduce the noise passing into the next room.
- To restrict movement of airborne contaminants. To isolate and separate an area of the building that creates dust or other particles or exudes gases or odors, PVC strips can restrict airflow and reduce contamination of adjacent rooms.
Personnel strip doors are normally made from lightweight Standard Smooth PVC strips, .060” or .080” in thickness. Anti-Insect Yellow PVC strips are often used for external pedestrian doors where keeping pests out is a top priority. A few different mounting systems can be used for personnel doors, with the QuickMount MD system being the most popular due to its simplicity and ease of installation.
